I\u00a0was shocked.\u00a0I\u00a0wasn\u2019t born independent;<\/strong>\u00a0they forced me\u00a0to\u00a0be\u00a0that way by\u00a0making me\u00a0choose between\u00a0my\u00a0career and my\u00a0sister.<\/strong>\u00a0Where she was never forced to\u00a0do\u00a0anything. All she has to\u00a0do\u00a0is\u00a0bat her pretty little eyelashes, and\u00a0my\u00a0parents crumble.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Everything I\u2019ve ever done was because of\u00a0exactly that reason.\u00a0<\/strong>My\u00a0sister wanted to\u00a0go\u00a0out so\u00a0she got all the money, but if\u00a0I wanted to\u00a0go\u00a0out, I\u00a0had to\u00a0work to\u00a0afford it\u00a0<\/strong>because my\u00a0parents couldn\u2019t. And that was just the\u00a0tip of\u00a0the iceberg<\/strong>\u00a0when it\u00a0came to\u00a0things\u00a0I had to\u00a0do.<\/p>\n

But I\u00a0stayed quiet.<\/strong>\u00a0I\u00a0had built the life I\u00a0wanted, and\u00a0I was about to\u00a0marry the man of\u00a0my\u00a0dreams. And the best part was\u00a0I did it\u00a0all without their\u00a0help or\u00a0interference.\u00a0<\/strong>But that didn\u2019t mean that\u00a0I was just going to\u00a0let this slide.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At my \"\"\u00a0last week, my\u00a0parents went pale when\u00a0I\u00a0pulled out the proof\u00a0<\/strong>of\u00a0every occasion when\u00a0I offered my\u00a0sister a\u00a0job at\u00a0the hospital\u00a0I worked for. Receptionist,\u00a0she didn\u2019t apply.\u00a0<\/strong>Clerk, she made herself look bad at\u00a0the interview. Assistant,\u00a0she never showed\u00a0up.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Then I\u00a0told everyone, \u201cIt\u2019s not that my\u00a0sister can\u2019t take care of\u00a0herself;\u00a0she doesn\u2019t want to<\/strong>\u00a0because she likes having my\u00a0parents look after her while she does\u00a0absolutely nothing to\u00a0improve her life.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0Everyone gasped when my\u00a0sister stood up\u00a0and\u00a0ran out,<\/strong>\u00a0but\u00a0I didn\u2019t care.<\/p>\n

She called me\u00a0a\u00a0few times after that, but\u00a0I refused to\u00a0answer.\u00a0<\/strong>Then last night\u00a0I got a\u00a0text from my\u00a0mother saying my\u00a0sister is\u00a0devastated because\u00a0I embarrassed her\u00a0<\/strong>in\u00a0front of\u00a0the\u00a0family. She thinks it\u00a0would\u2019ve been better if\u00a0I\u00a0did it\u00a0privately.<\/strong><\/p>\n
